Europe commitment communications visible and infrared light.

A few days ago I talked about new developments in visible light communications (for those who do not know what I recommend reading this special), a technology with many possibilities for local networks within buildings.
It seems that the European Union is also interested in this type of optical communications and has backed the project OMEGA HOME Gigabit Access, research that seeks to create a communications system for the home and even professionals based on visible light and infrared operation together with other technologies such as PLC or WiFi.
The EU has funded a total of 12.41 million 19.13 million cost of the project, and it seems that researchers are on track, and they have achieved speeds up to 280 Mbps at distances of 10 meters between multiple devices and bidirectionally.

It is hoped that in time this technology can be implemented in LED lighting systems for households and in places you can not use WiFi because it causes interference, such as in hospitals and some plants.
